Abstract
Monitoring the movement of fish has been a concern of natural resource scientists and Fisheries Managers for many years. Documenting migration patterns before, after, and during spawning periods is of outmost concern for researchers. Seeing and understanding the pattern of non-native invasive species to remove them from water bodies is also a concern. Monitoring without impeding navigation of vessels has proven difficult and most monitoring has been done at dammed locations where a weir or underwater fence has been put in place to limit “free movement” of fishes. Networked underwater acoustics have been deployed by limited companies and these solutions are very costly. Can we monitor the movement of fishes and invasive species with modern commercial fish finders?
